Barbara Kline

Barbara Kline, 73, passed away September 1, 2022 at Unity Point Iowa Methodist West Des Moines after battling cancer.

Barbara was born April 25, 1949 in Des Moines to John and Florence (West) Gay. She was a leader in the nursing field and was also a teacher. She saved many lives over her 44 years in nursing. Barbara was a fulltime mom, and will be remembered for consistently serving dinner at 5:30 p.m. She always supported her children despite their life choices. She was extremely selfless, always putting others before herself. Barbara was loving and patient. She enjoyed sewing and liked to camp, especially in the fall. Barbara loved going on bus tours, associating with her Classic Car friends, attending dinners and events. She also loved the Iowa State Fair and attended every year. Barbara was a member of the Eastern Star and was a 35-year member of Classic Chevy Club of Central Iowa.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Tom Kline; daughter, Lori Ann (Bob) Fitzpatrick; son, Corey Michael (Mary) Kline; brother, Dr. John Samuel (Jacqueline) Gay; grandchildren, Joclyn (Tim Smith) Fitzpatrick, Joshua (Tayler Klocko) Kline, Amanda (Ethan Gregory) Kline, Kayla (Dylan Armel) Kline and Ryan Strait; great-grandchildren, Sophia Fitzpatrick-Smith, Ava Smith, T.J. Smith and two on the way, Everlyn Armel due in November and Colton Smith due in December.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. Barbara will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Ronald McDonald House in loving memory of Barbara.
