Service Details
Donna Joan Southard, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa. The family will greet friends Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Burial will take place afterward at the Norwalk Cemetery.
Donna was born April 18, 1935, at home in Des Moines, Iowa, to Robert and Selma (Meister) Poortinga. She married Raymond Southard on May 29, 1953. Donna's greatest joy was being a mom and grandma to her own family, neighbors, and friends. She was a faithful member of Redeemer Baptist Church in Norwalk, Iowa, where she served in Awana, the nursery, and bus ministry.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond. She is survived by her son, Raymond, Jr.; daughters, Valerie, and Pam (Jim) Gideon; grandchildren, Christina (Scott) Meyer, Joshua Gideon, Matthew (Ashley) Gideon, and Thomas (Lauren) Gideon; twenty great grandchildren; a niece, three nephews, and their families.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Care Initiatives Hospice.

I had the pleasure of meeting Donna while she was at Southern Hills, she was a very sweet lady. I visited her last Wednesday and she looked very comfortable.
