Dean Irvin Johnson "Deano" 73, passed away with his wife lying by his side on August 30, 2022, at Edencrest at Siena Hills in Ankeny. He was born in Galesburg, ND, on July 17, 1949, the son of Marvin and Donna Johnson.

Dean graduated from Page High School in Page, ND. He went to college in Valley City, ND then transferred to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. His education took pause and he found a 30 year career at UPS in Davenport then in Des Moines, Iowa. It is there he met the love of his life. Together he and Diane had a vision for their family, they built their dream log home so that one day they could create memories of holidays, family reunions, graduations and shared celebrations where all were welcome. Dean enjoyed above all else his family and his friends. Dean's social character was loved by many as he had quick wit and was recognized by his one liners and his jokes. He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, riding bikes, hiking, and took great pride in his 22 acre property. Let us not forget Dean also was a devoted Hawkeye fan and hardly missed a game most of which he spent with his wife and friends in celebration.

Dean is survived by his wife Diane K. Johnson; Brother Gary (Joanne) Johnson; Daughter Desiree (Bob) Cobine, Sons Wyatt Madsen and Cody (Stephanie) Madsen; Grandchildren Bobby Cobine, Cammy Mullock, Gage Madsen, Avery Madsen, Kayden Madsen and MayLee Madsen ; Great-grandchildren Ryker & Hollus Mullock; And a large extended family

Dean is also survived by his energetic spirit, passion for adventure, big heart and his love to everyone that came into his life.

Services will be at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th St SW, in Altoona on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation to begin at 10:00 a.m. Luncheon to follow at Elks Lodge, 5420 NE 12th Avenue Des Moines, IA 50237.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, in loving memory of Dean Johnson.
