Robert VonStein

Robert Lee VonStein, 64, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2022. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa on November 11, 1957, the son of Carl Lee and Loretta (Kinney) VonStein.
Robert graduated from Bondurant-Farrar High School and worked as a Quality Control Supervisor for Archer Daniels Midland until his retirement. He was a man’s man, an early riser, hard worker, hunter, fisherman and teacher. Robert was a wonderful family man and greatly loved his grandchildren. He was a farmer through and through and enjoyed riding his Harley. Robert was always neighborly, and loved meeting people. Teasing, loving, laughing and joking were some of Robert’s greatest attributes. Robert was extremely patriotic, always supporting and thanking veterans and police officers whenever he had the chance.
Robert was a member of the NRA, the Republican Party, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Renae; son, Gregory VonStein; daughter, Angela (Pete) Mckernan; grandchildren, Jaiden, Colin, Grace, Penny and Calvin; siblings, Teresa VonStein, Scott (Sheila) VonStein, and Ken VonStein; and brother-in-law, Greg Havel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home one hour prior to service time. Following the service, a gathering will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Vittoria Lodge, 7200 NW 2nd Ave. Ankeny, Iowa 50023.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Fallen Officer’s Burial fund or any worthy cause that supports our troops and veterans, in loving memory of Robert.

I'm so very sorry about Robert's passing. I remember him and the family fondly when I lived in Bondurant during many of my young school years. Teresa and I were in the same grade. You are all in my prayers during this time.

My Condolences to the Von Stein Family. I didn't know Robert, but I worked with his brother Kenny back at Stogdills in the 80's. Ken spoke of his family frequently. My Thoughts & Prayers.
