Theresa Marie Ferin, 88, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.

She was born the daughter of Joseph & Mary (Randa) Leonetti on February 3, 1934. Theresa grew up in Des Moines and graduated from St. Joseph Academy with the Class of 1951. She later married her high school sweetheart, Ernest Ferin on June 21, 1953 and to this union four children were born. They made their home in Des Moines and Mason City, where they made many lifelong friends. After the children were raised, Theresa began work for the Iowa State Legislature as a Legislative Clerk.

Theresa’s family and home were most important to her. She excelled as a wife, mother, Nana and homemaker. She was a wonderful cook and shared many holiday meals with her family and enjoyed hosting dinner parties for friends. Her family has many fond memories of her decorating for the holidays and the house always looking incredible. Theresa loved arranging cousin sleepovers for grandchildren as they were most important to her. She will be remembered and live on through the hearts and lives that she has touched in her lifetime.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Ernest, her loving and devoted caregiver; sons, John (Pat) Ferin, Rob (Kay) Ferin, and Mike (Rachel) Ferin; son-in-law, Ed Sirfus; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; with one on the way; as well as many other loving family members & friends that she nourished along the way.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Jo Sirfus; and brothers, Pete Leonetti and Frank Leonetti.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. August 31, 2022 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Theresa will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
