Larry E. "Slick" Woods passed away August 18, 2022 at Edencrest of Beaverdale.
Larry was born on July 9, 1939, in Des Moines. He served in the US Navy and in 1960 married the love of his life, Alice Palmer. They were blessed with three children.
Larry learned his lifelong profession as a barber while in the Navy. He worked at and later owned Bond’s Barber Shop, from which he retired in 2016. He had multiple generations of loyal customers. Larry didn’t know a stranger and was well-known for his quick wit and ability to make people laugh. He loved his family deeply and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dogs and babies always brought a smile to Larry’s face! He also had a passion for golf and enjoyed many rounds with his son, sons-in-law, grandsons, and friends. Larry was a loving caretaker of Alice after she suffered a stroke in 2005. They continued to travel and his dedication to her was a testament of true love. He was a devout Catholic and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Larry is preceded in death by his wife Alice, mother Phyllis Eckrosh, stepfather James Eckrosh, and brother Floyd Eckrosh. Survivors include his children Joe (Julie) of Faribault, MN, Lori (Dean) Bellville of Buckeye, AZ, and Deanna (Tim) Curtis of Urbandale; grandchildren, Rozlynn (John) Woods, J.J. (Alana) Woods, Kollin Bellville, Alex (Marisa) Bellville, Cole Curtis, and Bennett Curtis, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sister JoAnn Ekstrom, many nieces, nephews, extended family, and beloved friends who loved him dearly.

Family of Larry, We are so sorry for your loss. We would see Alice and Larry frequently at the old Dahl's on Fleur. They were both lovely people and Larry took great care of Alice after her stroke. May he rest in peace.

Im lucky to have known this great man for about 60 years. Starting with haircuts, then as a shoeshine boy at Bonds Barber Shop until high school. We became golfing buddies. Larry, Joe, my brother, Steve and I met in California to golf and toured the USS Midway in San Diego. Im honored to have him witness my only hole-in-one on 9/10/11 in Indianola at his favorite course. We picked grapes together for Stans homemade wine that we later shared together. I moved to Texas, but stayed in touch. I attended his surprise 80th birthday party with my daughter and granddaughter that he loved dearly. Larry and Alice always got a thrill calling me by my nickname Possum. Give Alice a hug for me. RIP brother ❤

We remember meeting him first back in the late 80s and then seeing him again at a couple EV member-guests. What a fun guy to be around. The man had good hair! To Joe & Julie, Lori & Dean, and the rest of the family, our hearts and our prayers go out to you. There is no one in this world like your father. He was a special person and he will always be with you.

Larry was more then my barber for 55 years (since 9th grade) excluding my 3 years in the Marine Corps. We shared many funny stories over the years that we continued to laugh about like it was the first time we heard them. I always admired Larry's strength in caring for Alice in her time of need. You will be deeply missed by your family and friends who all loved you but Alice is waiting and God has called you home. May you Rest In Peace until we meet again. God Bless You My Friend.

What a great guy. Larry started cutting my hair when I was in High School (Class of '67). Except for my time in the service, we had a standing every other week appointment -that's a lot of haircuts. Larry took a great deal of pride in his profession and work. He made sure we all came out of his shop looking better than when we went in. And we always found time for a good laugh while we were there.
I know Larry's family is very proud of him, especially for the dedication he showed to Alice. They are together again now and having a wonderful catching up on the past few years.
My sympathy is extended to his children and their families. You had a wonderful father and grandfather who loved you all very much and he was so proud of all of you.
