Timothy Olson
August 16, 2022
Timothy Allen Olson, age 56, tragically left this earth on the afternoon of August 16, 2022.
Tim O, as his friends called him, was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on May 8, 1966 to Gary & Ella (Rauter) Olson. During childhood, Tim and his siblings (John & Gretchen) moved often as Gary served multiple parishes. Tim always offered his musical gifts to the church.
Tim went to Luther College to follow in his father's footsteps and pursue a degree in religion. During his time at Luther he decided that his calling was to build houses of worship, inspiring him to get his Master's Degree in Architecture from Iowa State University. After gaining years of experience in the industry, Tim went on to create the reputable ETHOS Design Group.
On the day of his death he was doing two of the things he loved, adding beauty to the world through architecture as well as shopping for antiques.
When he wasn’t working, you could find him on a lake either fishing or sailing with his buddies. He also enjoyed traveling the world with his youngest daughter. He had a love for music that he shared with both of his daughters whenever he found a song they may enjoy.
Tim was a leader, a brother, a father, a friend….A supporter, an encourager, an innovator. His unique sense of humor and “Olson-isms” will be missed by many.
Tim is survived by his two daughters, Emily (age 20) and Abby (age 24) as well as their mother Katie. He is also survived by his parents Gary & Ella (Rauter) Olson, his brother John (Peggi) Olson, and his sister Gretchen (Sacha) Kopp. He will also be missed by his nieces & nephews.
His joyful presence will be remembered by his extended family, his best friend Doug (Kathy) Hron, and his sailing buddies. His passion for design will be carried out by his hand-picked team at ETHOS.
We are so thankful for the memories of Tim that we will forever carry in our hearts.
The visitation for Tim will occur on Monday August 22 from 5:30-7:30p.m. at ETHOS Design Group in Ankeny.
His Celebration of Life service will take place on Tuesday August 23 at 11a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.
Flowers or cards for the family or business may be directed to ETHOS Design Group at 1615 SE Cortina Dr Suite 101, Ankeny, IA 50021.

I would like to apologize for your loss. While most people wouldn't believe me I watched the accident happen first hand. I knew the man driving and I just wish I could have helped more than I did.

I was so shocked to hear of Tim's passing. I was at Luther at the same time, and recently got to know him better. He loved his daughters more than anything, and glowed when he shared about them. He was also very proud of his business. Rest in Peace

I am so very sorry to hear of Tim's death. Two of his firms were clients of mine at my former insurance brokerage and I always enjoyed seeing Tim when I visited them. He was a talented and good man and will be sadly missed. May his memory be a blessing.

I'm shocked and sorry to hear this. Please accept my condolences. I watched many softball games with Tim as our daughters played.
