Marion DeGraff

Marion (Dutchman) Wayne DeGraff, 92, passed away on August 15, 2022, at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa, under the care of Hospice.

Marion was born September 5, 1929, in rural Jasper County, Iowa to Edward and Marie DeGraff. Marion and his wife, Annabelle were married on November 27, 1953 (nearly 69 years). They spent their entire married life on a farm northwest of Runnells, before moving to assisted living earlier this year.

Marion was a member of Adelphi Calvary Baptist Church. For many years he served as a deacon, treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and youth leader. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and served Him faithfully, being a godly example to his wife and children. He loved his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids. He loved when they visited the farm, giving them lasting memories. He was an awesome gardener and loved sharing the fruits of his labor with anyone who wanted it. In his younger years (up to his 50s), he loved playing fastpitch softball and was inducted into the Des Moines Softball Hall of Fame for his pitching skills. He also loved watching baseball and rarely missed a grandkid’s game. His Dutch heritage often showed through, as he was known to be, let’s just say, set in his ways. He was loved by all who knew him.

Marion is survived by his children, Doug (Susie) DeGraff, Debbie (Gary) Ogden, Dottie (Darron) Cutler, and Dan (Deb) DeGraff; ten grandchildren, Eric (Amber) DeGraff, Ryan (Kerrie) DeGraff, Sara (Jack) Bradshaw, Jason (Sarah) Ogden, Jenny (Logan) Jarr, Tate DeGraff, Danielle DeGraff, Cyndal Cutler, Ethan (Anaia) Cutler, and Evan (Josephine) Cutler; ten great grandchildren, Jared and Nick Bradshaw, Sophie, Griffin and Harper DeGraff, Adelyn, Juliet and Lillian DeGraff, and Rachel and Jaxson Ogden; brother-in-law, Wayne Northway; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annabelle; parents; brothers, Dale (Margaret) DeGraff and Harold (Bertha) DeGraff; and sisters, Bernice (Byrl) Dodd and Marilyn Northway.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday August 20, 2022 at Adelphi Calvary Baptist Church, 7925 SE Vandalia Road, Runnells, Iowa. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with burial at Warren-Powers Cemetery.
