Robin Dean Hakanson

Robin Dean Hakanson, 68, passed away August 13, 2022 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, August 21, 2022 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 517 SW Des Moines St. in Ankeny, IA.

Robin was born January 26, 1954 in Guttenburg, IA to Lois (Reinhardt) and Leland Hakanson. He graduated from Ankeny High School in 1973, and then attended college in Pennsylvania obtaining his bachelor’s to become a P.E. teacher. He worked at the Golden Nugget as a security guard – meeting all walks of life. In 1993, Robin moved back to Iowa to care for his ailing mother and to be closer to family. He worked for Delavan/Goodrich for many years, alongside his step-dad Dayton, until his retirement in 2019.

Robin loved to read and had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He was a powerhouse of a man, literally and physically, completing in the Iowa Games powerlifting and winning numerous awards.

He is survived by his niece, Nicole Meeker and her children, Gabriel and Dayton; nephew, Joshua (fiancé Danielle) and his children, Natalie, Noah, Elaine, Joshua Jr.; cousins, Bradley, Brent, Linda, Bruce, Keith Michael, David, and Donald; and many aunts, uncles, and other loving family members.

Robin was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Dayton Lang; his grandparents; nephew, Travis Meeker; sister, Dee Lang; and his aunt Janice Gearhart.
