Lester Wayne Wacht

Lester Wayne Wacht passed away August 15, 2022, following a short illness. He was 71 years old.

Lester was born May 18, 1951, in Redfield, IA to Wayne and Jean Wacht. He grew up in Redfield, moving to Des Moines as a teenager and graduated from Dowling Catholic High School. He attended Indian Hills Community College and earned an Associate’s Degree in accounting.

Lester was a hardworking man, often having multiple jobs to support his family. He worked part time at Ace Hardware, formerly True Value, for 35 years. He retired in 2020 from the Des Moines Water Works after 20 years of service.

Lester’s greatest joy was his family. He married Deloris Brubaker on July 15, 1972. They were married for 50 years. They had two daughters, Kelly and Keri. They were blessed with three grandchildren: Ava, Samuel, and Audrey. They were his pride and joy. He carried pictures of them wherever he went. He was also an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving on the Building and Grounds Committee.

Lester is survived by his wife of 50 years, Deloris; daughters Kelly Bronsink and Keri Wacht; grandchildren Ava Wright, Samuel Bronsink, and Audrey Bronsink. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Jean Wacht and his sister, Jeanne Bailey.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
