Janet Pilcher
August 12, 2022
Janet Rae Pilcher, age 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Janet was born November 8, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa to Fred and Frances (Blackman) Pilcher. In her younger years, she worked as a waitress for Younkers Meadow Lark Restaurant in Merle Hay Mall. Janet retired from the Iowa Workforce Department where she taught classes to help others gain employment.
Janet enjoyed going to car shows, camping, dancing, going on picnics, listening to music especially Elvis, and spending time at the beach. She felt so blessed to have many close friends both in Des Moines and Mesa, Arizona where she lived before returning to Iowa in May of 2021 to be closer to family. Janet would tell of her adventures at the pool each day and all the fun things her and her friends did. She loved her friends as though they were family and was grateful to have so many she treasured.
She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda (Curtis) Craig and Kim (Scott) Wailes; grandchildren, Courtney Craig, Joshua Craig, Jonathan Poulos and his fiancé, Maryah Bober, and Claire Poulos; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
Janet was preceded in death by her son, Terry Lee Hochmuth; grandson, Nicholas Craig; brother, Fred Pilcher; and her parents, Fred and Frances Pilcher.
According to Janet’s wishes, family said their goodbyes during a private ceremony. A private inurnment will occur at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. A Celebration of Life for her extended family and friends will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wolf Creek Clubhouse, 3205 Wolf Creek Road SW, Bondurant, Iowa 50035.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Unity Point Taylor House Hospice, 3401 E Douglas Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50317, or https://www.unitypoint.org/desmoines/online-donation.aspx in loving memory of Janet. I am so thankful that I was able to see you a couple of times before you had to leave us. You were so happy when you came out to the campground with Kim, to visit with us. You talked about how much you were enjoying yourself. I am so grateful you had such a good time, and only wished that we could have you out again. You were a great lady, with a kind heart. You will be so very missed. I have a lot of good memories from spending time at your home when I was growing up. It's just really hard to believe you are gone now. But, I know you are no longer in pain, and have been reunited with Terry, Jr. God Bless you, Janet, you will be missed by many. Rest in peace, my dear.❤
