Robert C. Thomson
August 10, 2022
Robert Craig Thomson, 74, passed away after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer at his home in West Des Moines, Iowa on August 10, 2022. Visitation will take place from 5 -8 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
Bob was born January 23, 1948 to Isabel and John Holbrook Thomson, Sr., in Highland Park, Illinois. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1966 where he played baseball and swam competitively. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a business degree in Economics. While at the U of I, Bob met Linda Knight and they married in July of 1970 and recently celebrated 52 years of married life this past July. Bob attended Drake Law School in Des Moines, IA where he received a Juris Doctorate Degree.
Bob followed in the footsteps of a long line of lawyers. His grandfather, father and brother were lawyers. Bob was a managing partner at Grefe & Sidney Law Firm in Des Moines for 47 years. He was a member of the American Bar Association.
In addition to his family and friends, Bob loved the law, golf (his golfing buddies nicknamed him “Bullet Bob” because he had a wickedly fast back swing), his second home in Sarasota, Florida and his wonderful neighbors and friends in the Craftsman Association at Bridgewood in West Des Moines where he and Linda have resided for seven years. He also had served as President of his Craftsman Association.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Linda Thomson; his sons, Kevin (Jennifer) Thomson and Craig (Laura) Thomson; five grandsons, Cooper, Grayson, Jack, Henry and David Thomson; and his brother, John Holbrook Thomson, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles Thomson, and mother-in-law, Esther Knight.
The family will be forever grateful to Dr. Thomas Buroker and his onocology team for their expertise and compassion. Memorial contributions may be directed to John Stoddard Cancer Center.

You will be missed Bob. Out of pain and surrounded by angels. As our friend and neighbor, I will always remember you saying "where's my Bride" when leaving an evening gathering. Our deepest sympathy to your "bride" Linda and family
