Scott Anthony Simon, age 62, passed away Friday, August 5, 2022 at the Iowa Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.
Scott was born July 28, 1960 in Des Moines, Iowa to Alvin and Darlene (Crockett) Simon, Sr. He graduated from North High School in 1978. He loved and excelled at the game of basketball. His love of sports continued for his entire life. He was a diehard Iowa Hawkeyes, Lakers, and Chicago Cubs fan.
Scott served in the Army and was deployed to Korea, serving from 1981 to 1984. He lived in California for six years, then returned to Iowa to raise his family.
Scott worked at Fort Des Moines as a correctional officer, then went to Mainstream Living where he cared deeply for and worked hand in hand with those who are disabled.
Scott loved to go fishing and play Dominoes – or better known as “Bones” with his friends. He loved to have a good time and was very humorous and caring. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children, Shawn (Angela) Simon and Shantae Simon; grandchildren, Aiana, Isaac, and Terrill; siblings, Dawn (Al) Spears and Alvin Simon, Jr.; wife, Kim Brumfield; and his nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Sr. and Darlene Simon; and his sister, Lynelle Hawthorne.
A memorial service will be held on Monday August 15th 2:00 pm at Iowa Veterans Cemetery where he will be buried with military honors. A celebration of life will be held at the Veterans Reception Center located at 910 Main St in Van Meter from 3-5pm.

Baby Bro,
I will not be at your going away in body but I will be there in spirit, and mind. We talked at least once a week sometimes more. Every time we let each other know we loved one another. I will keep that loved with me until I take my last breath. I miss you.
