Bong LoVan was born October 8th, 1934 in Lua Village, Thuan Chau, Son La, Vietnam to Noi LoVan and So LoThi. He was the eldest of 4 children.

He joined the French Military in 1949 and by 1953, he was the commander of his unit. He received 2 medals (cor de care) in the same year. In 1955, he separated from his unit and went to Seumork and eventually moved to Saigon.

In 1956, he arrived in Laos and joined the Laos Military. There, he met his wife, Pam Bacthi and married that year. While he was in Laos, he worked for the French and Swiss Diplomats.

In 1979, he immigrated his family to Nongkai, Thailand. They had the opportunity, in 1980, to immigrate to the United States. He was able to work as soon as they arrived and retire here in 1989.

He was always loving, caring, and would help those in need. In his spare time, he loved being with family and gardening.

On July 30th, 2022, after a great family gathering, he peacefully passed in his sleep. He is survived by his wife, 8 kids, 16 grandkids and 9 great grandkids.

Services will take place at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.
