Roger Lee Sanders was born on October 20, 1939, in Poweshiek County, Iowa and passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2022, in Des Moines, Iowa.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; his sons, Steve (Lisa) and Jerry (Missy); his grandchildren, John, Jara and Jillianne Sanders, Juliette (Sean) Sanders-Howard, and Jerrett Sanders; and one great-granddaughter, Julianna Dalton. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert and Marvin (Sandi), and many nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, John Davis and Jesse Ethel (Reed) Sanders; his brothers, Ronald (Jeanne), Orville (Phyllis), Clyde (Lareta), Donn and one sister-in-law Dixie.

Roger graduated from Deep River High School in 1958. He married Joan Weiss on October 14, 1961. They moved to Des Moines and over the years he worked for Bruce Motor Freight, owned his own semi for several years, Ruan Transport and Anderson Erickson Dairy, where he retired in 2001.

Roger enjoyed fishing, restoring old cars, bringing back to life old lawn mowers, Cubs baseball and Drake women’s basketball.

Roger was a great family man and loving husband and father.

A funeral is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Family will begin greeting visitors at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Roger’s life.
