Craig Courtney
July 23, 2022
Russell Craig Courtney, 53, passed away on July 23, 2022. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa on December 20, 1968, to Harold and Donna Courtney.
Craig was quite the character and an incredibly hard worker, never expecting anyone to do what he wouldn’t do. He was a dedicated Union Sheet Metal Worker with Local 45 for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with Brad, especially fishing and having beers. Craig was a devoted husband and father, always putting his family first. He loved swimming with his grandkids and spraying cooking oil on the slide to make it go faster. B-Pa is what his grandkids call him, he could never tell them no! His greatest passion was his family and spending time with them.
Craig is survived by his loving wife, Becky; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Chelsie; grandchildren, Berklie, River and one on the way; mother, Donna; siblings, Dean Courtney, Deb Caligiuri, Dennis Courtney (Mary), Diane Benshoof, Julie Carmer (Rick), Debbie Roeder (Steve), and Dan Courtney; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Cindi and Keith Dunn; sister-in-law, Christina Vos; father-in-law, Sam Vos (Janet); many nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Lacy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; grandparents, Russ and Mary Mintle, Len and Alice Courtney, Mary Egli, Dean and Mary Vos, and Bob Kyar.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to service time.

So very sorry for your loss. I rode the school bus with Craig when we were in 7th and 8th grade. I always remember Craig as being such a nice guy. Some kid said a not so nice expression to me once on the bus and Craig got up and confronted the other kid. Craig told him to apologize to me and to never say anything like that to me again and the other kid apologized in front of all of us then sat down in the bus seat. We were only neighbor kids but I was in awe that he stood up to someone for me, someone he hardly knew. I have never forgotten that or what a great person Craig was. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

Becky and Brad,
Words can't express the feelings that you feel inside your heart now. My heart is saddened and it's hard to comprehend he is gone. Just know that I love you and am here for you if you need me.

Becky and Brad when i think back to all the people i have worked with there are a handful of people in your life if you are lucky enough to call a friend and a person that you actually like to work with, Craig was one of those people hard worker made coming to work fun or going fishing with.
I know that I had not seen or talked to Craig for a while but when setting around talking about guys you work around or had spent time with his name always comes up.craig will be missed and my thoughts and prayers to you and the family.
