Phouangphet Keointavong, beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 9:55 a.m. in his own home after doctors released him from Methodist Hospital and could not save him from liver cancer. He was born the first son of Mr. Khamtoui and Mrs. Khamsay Keointavong on April 12, 1965 in Pakse, Laos. He has two sisters: Phouangkeo Keointavong and Phouangngeun (Khek) Phongphachone and a brother: Anouthay Keointavong. All are together in Des Moines, Iowa.

Phouangphet completed primary school in Pakse, Laos and left the country to Ubon Refugee Camp, Thailand with his family in January 1977. Later, they relocated to Napho Refugee Camp, Thailand in May 1988, and lastly moved to Des Moines, Iowa U. S. A. in March 1990.

Phouangphet began his own family when he met a beautiful Taidam lady, Feuang Lo Thi and decided to marry her on July 4, 1992 in Des Moines, Iowa. Together they have three children: two daughters, Darlene and Alisha, and a son, Ethan Keointavong.

Phouangphet enjoyed working at Titan Tires, fishing, and social drinking with friends. Most of all, he loved being with his family and relatives.

Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m., followed by funeral service at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Cremation will take place after the service.
