Gene always loved fishing and looked forward to his Spring and Fall Walleye fishing trips to Lake Kabetogama, MN. On Saturday nights you could always find him at the Fairgrounds watching the dirt track races. He enjoyed watching western TV shows at home and playing with his cat, Kitty.
Gene lived in his home for 68 years before moving to Karen Acres Care Center. He had many long-time close friends and relatives who visited him often, and he loved to visit and tell stories.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Mike (Gina) and Steve (Inara); grandsons, Dustin, Raleigh (Kassie), Geoff (Meg), and Tyler (Emily); and great-grandchildren, Johnathon, Kaitlin, Lexi, London and twins due in February 2023.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, LoAnn (2015); and brothers, Robert and Raymond.
Services will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines at 10:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter IA with military honors.

I'm so sad to hear of Gene's passing.
I was hoping to visit with him again, but didn't know where he moved to.
I was a neighbor of his for 11 years. I loved Gene and Loan.

So sad to hear of the passing of your dad. The Canada fishing trip and the Hawkeye football games are some of the fondest memories I personally have. I know how difficult it is to lose parents. I also know how lucky we all were to know yours. Steve and Karla Waldron

My thoughts and prayers are with you Steve & Mike (and your families) in your loss of Gene (your father). He was a very sweet man and I know you will miss him, but just remember all the great times you had with him and your mother. I will miss him also as we had many hours of talking to each other, on the phone these last few years due to the covid virus that keep me from visiting him in person. I will continue to pray for your families as you adjust to life without Gene.
