Steve Wetherell
July 12, 2022
Steven Billy Wetherell, the son of Billy and Mary (Streufert) Wetherell, was born on April 23, 1964, in Primghar, IA. He received his early education at Sutherland Schools and then attended Iowa Lakes Community College.
Steve worked at Huffman’s Farm Equipment for more than 30 years. On August 4, 2017, he was united in marriage to Joann Miller of Des Moines. In 2020, he moved to Des Moines where he worked for Tiernan’s Service Center in Granger, IA until his passing.
You could always find him hanging out with family and friends, grilling, and socializing over a cold beer. He enjoyed tractors and watching Western shows, Gilligan’s Island, Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory, and NASCAR races. Steve was also an avid sports fan always rooting for the Iowa State Cyclones and Green Bay Packers.
Steve was a fix it all kind of man who was always willing to help others. Above all else, he cherished time spent with his family and loved playing with and spoiling his grandchildren.
He passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines, IA at the age of 58. Steve gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Mary LaRaye; step-mother, Nadine Wetherell; two sisters, Susan and Sandy Wetherell; brother, Daniel Wetherell; sisters-in-law, Julieann Anderson and Karen Miller both of Des Moines, IA; his father-in-law, Fred Miller; his mother-in-law, Rosemary Miller; infant stepson, Richard Dale Clark; and special pup, Buddy.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joann of Des Moines; his father, Bill of Fairfield, CA; one brother, Scott of Sutherland, IA; nephews, Curt Wetherell of Fairmont, MN and Cody (Tammy) Taylor of Cherokee, IA; brother-in-law, Roger Miller of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Suzann (Jim) Wetherell of Cherokee, IA; step mother-in-law, Pam Miller of Ankeny; stepchildren, John (Jessica) Miller, Rachael Clark, and Ashley Clark; grandchildren, Kirby, Brolee, Finnley, Sophia, Valentino, Syrus, Audrey, Natreya, and Tremeisha; his four-legged friend, Chewi; as well as other loving family and countless friends.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Oakland Cemetery in Peterson, Iowa.
