Service Details
Donald Richard Smith, age 76, passed away at Glen Oaks Nursing Home in Urbandale on July 17, 2022. He was born in Des Moines on April 2, 1946, the son of Donald R. and Alma Smith.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa, and his parents, Donald and Alma. He is survived by his children Aaron and Autumn; stepdaughters Lisa, Jenny, and Heather; a sister, Trudy; as well as numerous grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow the visitation at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Animal Rescue League or to the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association.

Dick was my mentor at work. He was the best coworker. I knew I could always go to Dick and get help. When we would get that call in the middle of the night to fix a program problem, I'd be in a panic and Dick was always so calm. And he had a great dry sense of humor. I was so fortunate to work with him. Rest in peace, Dick.
