Helen Olstad

Helen Olstad, 86, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009, in Marshalltown. She was born on June 11, 1923, to Jennie and Ned Rock in Des Moines.

Helen was a World War II veteran and served with the United States Navy. She was a graduate of East Des Moines High School and the American Institute of Business. Helen retired as a secretary with the Honeywell Corporation. Helen belonged to Heartland Assembly of God and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving family members are her sons, Gary (Sarah) Fisk of Ankeny and Larry (Peggy) Fisk of West Des Moines; and her daughter, Cindy (Jim) Konegni of Fullerton, California; her brothers James Rock of Des Moines and William Rock of Ham Lake, MN; her sisters, Margaret Swim of Des Moines and Elma Gable of Olympia, WA and seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Earl A. Olstad; sisters, Betty, Cecilia, Juanita and Pat and brother Martin.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 6, 2009, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens cemetery. A visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
