Maria Theresa del Rosario Knode, 52, was called home on June 29, 2022. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 5-8 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home on Lyon in Des Moines and funeral at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Ankeny First United Methodist Church on Walnut in Ankeny, Iowa. We ask Red Hatters please wear their colors. Burial will be held at a later date at Pine Hill Cemetery.

Maria was born on June 27, 1970, at Ft. Benning, Georgia to Roberto and Virginia del Rosario. In August of 1970, she moved to Des Moines, IA where she spent the rest of her life. She was joined by her brother Marco in 1972. Maria graduated from Saydel High School in 1989. She was a hard and dedicated worker in the fast food industry and spent 15 years at Burger King in Ankeny. While she was at Burger King, she helped many deaf and Hispanic customers as she knew enough sign language and Spanish to help them. Maria was a very loving person and would help anyone who needed it.

On August 7, 1999, Maria married Francis Knode, Jr. and they had almost 14 years together before he passed away.

Maria was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church, the Filipino-American Association of Iowa, the Filipino-American Dance Troupe, and a member of the Red Hat Society. Maria was also a Girl Scout for 10 years and earned the highest award they have, the Gold Award, for writing and producing a puppet show on “Say No to Drugs”. Maria loved to dance and spent 15 years taking dance lessons, camping, movies and plays, horseback riding, jigsaw puzzles, traveling and meeting new people. She loved all animals, especially dolphins, wolves and her dog, Sammy.

Maria is survived by her mother, Ginny, and her brother, Marco. Uncles, John (Pam) Schaeffer of Washington, Jack Allen, Sr., Fred Allen and aunts, Rose Maria del Rosario of Arizona, Barbara Yaw of Tennessee, Doris Elliott, Neva Spalding of Missouri. Maria was preceded in death by her loving husband “Junior”, her father Bobby del Rosario, aunts Christine Lemme Rainwater, Anna Waltz; uncles Norman Lemme, Nars del Rosario, David Allen, Paul Allen Jr, grandparents Earl and Florence Schaeffer, Vernon and Tina Lemme and Oscarito del Rosario. She leaves behind many cousins and friends and will be greatly missed.
