Mavis "Carlene" Alfred

Mavis ‘Carlene” Alfred , 84, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2022, while residing in Des Moines, IA with her daughter. She was born in Oklahoma City, OK, on November 5, 1937, to the late Carl and Mavis Sweatt. She spent most of her childhood in Grayville, IL before moving to WV where she eventually met her late husband DeWayne Alfred. She was dedicated to her career as a skilled service assistant for the state of West Virginia and was awarded the opportunity to form many special friendships. She had a strong passion for dogs and never met a dog that she didn’t love. She enjoyed reading, listening to country music and spending time with her family and friends.

Carlene was blessed with a large loving family that will dearly miss her. She is survived by her children, Michael McKibben, Vincent McKibben, Renee McKibben and stepson William “Bud” Boggess; grandchildren, Ashlee Lentini, Tanner McKibben, Danielle Radabaugh, Austin McKibben and MeKenzie Osterling; and great- grandchildren, Harper Lentini, Dillon Lentini, Carmen Lentini, Irelyn Davisson, Jon Michael Davisson, Piper Osterling, Chandler Boggess and Kaleb Wadsworth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings and her husband Dwayne Alfred.

The family wishes to thank everyone that had an impact or presence in her life. A private celebration of life will be held on her next birthday, November 5, 2022. Carlene was a longstanding charity donor to both Disabled Veteran’s and St. Jude Children’s Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please make a memorial donation in her name to either of these charities.
