Charles M. Hollingshead
June 23, 2022
Charles Marvin Hollingshead, age 69, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022.
Charlie was born May 3, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa to Marvin and Rosie (Sample) Hollingshead. He was a graduate of East High School in Des Moines, where he was a member of the swim team and held swimming records for many years. Charlie went into carpentry after high school. He was a hard worker and a talented handyman. There wasn’t much he could not fix or improve in a home.
Charlie was an outdoorsman. He loved camping with his family, fishing and hunting, especially with his father. He was still riding his bike down to the river to fish as little as two weeks ago. He loved to stay busy.
Charlie was a very caring and outgoing person. Strangers he met quickly became friends. He would talk to anyone and was always interested in new experiences.
He is survived by his parents, Marvin and Rosie Hollingshead; his children, Chana, Aric (Summer), and Chad (Alicia); his grandchildren; his sister, Judy Lingren; his brother, Tom (Laura) Hollingshead; and his nieces and nephews.
Cremation will occur and Charlie will be interred at Berwick Cemetery, in Berwick, Iowa at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Sheridan Park United Methodist Church, 4100 E Sheridan Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50317 in loving memory of Charlie.

It saddened me to hear of the loss of Charlie. We had alot of great memoriable years we shared together. It saddened me the most to not see our sons name, Luke Warburton, listed as one of his surviving children in his obituary because Luke is his son.Rest peacefully "Chasm"

I am so very sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. As his cousin just three years older than him, I have wonderful memories of our families' vacations to Canada to fish for those walleyes, and camping trips to Coralville. It was there that I learned how to water ski with the help, (and persistence!) from Charlie and Uncle Marvie! It didn't help that Charlie got up on the skis his first time trying! Let's just say, I had many, MANY attempts before I got up on those skis! But Charlie was a strong and excellent swimmer so he definitely had me beat there. I also remember watching Charlie at swim meets whenever his swim team competed in Cedar Rapids. I always enjoyed visiting him when in Des Moines. I know he will be missed.
