I am saddened by Toms passing. I knew Tom at Warren Harding Junior High and then North High. We touched base when we both were at the U of I and Tom later was my own eye physician. Intelligent, fun and unpredictable. And much more. My condolences to his family.

I knew Dr Brown from about 1995, when he used to come after work and help tutor students in Chemistry at the Des Moines Area Community College, Urban Campus in downtown Des Moines. He was popular among the students and had about 10-15 students come and see him. He was always humble and courteous as well as helpful.
We became good friends and he took me for my first opportunity to go on a sailboat. My being from India, he was always eager to learn about our culture and customs and we used to talk about him visiting India. Our family cherished the friendship of Tom and Marcia and we will always have pleasant memories. May his soul truly rest in eternal peace.

I joined Dr. Tom Brown's practice at Physicians Eye Clinic when I was 30 years old and fresh out of ophthalmology residency. He taught me many things I didn't learn in medical school, like how to run a business, reassure a patient, and be both a boss and friend to our staff. I have many great memories of Tom. He was kind, funny, meticulous, and loved chocolate so much that if given the opportunity he would eat dessert before supper. He planted many trees. He liked to be on the top of the world, whether eating a meal from the highest floor of a skyscraper or hiking to peaks on different continents. He was an adventurer who enjoyed sailing, hiking, and skiing. Because Tom and I were both "Dr. Brown," many patients assumed he was my dad. Though he wasn't, he was the most important mentor of my life. He challenged me in both clinic and the operating room, and his confidence in my skills made me a better doctor. Tom's optimism was contagious. When asked how he was doing, his answer was most always, "Super," even in later years when his physical condition deteriorated. I think it is his positive nature that made his patients, and all of us, love him so much. I'm glad I knew "Super" man, Dr. Tom Brown.

Dear Uncle Terry, Eric, Mark and Kimberly,
I am so sorry to hear of Uncle Toms passing. I have many fond memories, especially some of the stories my dad used to tell of their youthful antics! Sorry I am not able to be with you but know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Robert T, Eric, Marc, Kimberly, and family: Betty and I were so saddened to hear of the passing of our friend, North High classmate, and our ophthalmologist Tom Brown. Everyone in Bettys high school class, and all of Toms teachers at North High, admired Tom greatly. He was friendly to everyone, made you feel good to be around him, and was always positive and upbeat. He made quite an impact on all of his patients who loved him dearly. We know that he is now in heaven resting peacefully and smiling down upon us all. Our thoughts and prayers will be with each of you in the days that lie ahead.
