Susan Rae Gaard
June 21, 2022
Our beautiful sister, aunt and friend Susan Gaard left us the 21st of June 2022 at the age of 74. She was born on May 3, 1948, to Norma Brattebo and Roy Gaard who preceded her in death along with her younger brother, Tom Gaard. She is survived by her loving sister, Jane Gaard, Jane’s partner John; her niece, Sara Rodais, Sara’s husband Olivier; their two daughters, Elodie and Alexandra; her younger niece, Jamie Gaard and Jamie’s fiancé, Brad. Sue was loved by many and will be missed greatly. Her grandnieces were like her grandchildren, and she lavished love and attention on them.
The last five years of her life included more travel than she had ever done including a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower. She spent more than 30 years as a school librarian at Adel High School. She had a bright light about her. She loved to watch sports and laugh with friends. Her collection of unique and festive earrings brought her many compliments from friends and strangers alike. The Iowa Hawkeyes have lost their number one fan, and we have lost a most cherished family member.

Jane and family,
My deepest sympathy to you all on the passing of Sue. I remember that great smile from times we got together as cousins at family gatherings.

She was our high school librarian in Jefferson during the early 1970's. I have fond memories of chatting with her during study hall and am sorry for your loss.

My deepest condolences to Sues family. I had the pleasure of working with Sue as a fellow educator in the ADM school district for 14 years. Sue was not only a respected colleague, but a dear friend as well. She will be greatly missed.

I have lost such a dear friend. I taught Science at ADM High School and my room was just outside the east side of the library. In retirement, we went out to lunch monthly and I will miss these fun lunches terribly. My deepest sympathy to her family.
