Charlotte Humphrey

Charlotte E. Humphrey, 97, passed away peacefully on June 21st 2022, at her home in Des Moines, Iowa.

She was born in Des Moines, Iowa on April, 7th 1925 to James and Nellie (Stanton) Brown. Charlotte was educated as a nurse, working for Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines. Later in life she worked as a clerk for the United States Postal Service.

Charlotte loved her family deeply. Spending time with them was perhaps her favorite pastime. She also loved good music and enjoying peaceful quiet time, wherever she could find it.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Christopher E. Humphrey and Martin L. Humphrey, Jr.; daughters, Lisa S. Humphrey, Marline L. Humphrey, Cheryl E. Humphrey, and Stacia L. Humphrey-Forbush; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of many years, Martin L. Humphrey, Sr.; sisters, Hortense Gray, Delores Morton, Barbara Tate; and brother, James Brown, Jr.

As I sit in heaven
and watch you everyday
I try to let you know with signs
I never went away

I hear you when you’re laughing
And watch you as you sleep
I even place my arms around you
To calm you while you weep

I see you wish the days away
Begging to have me home
So I try to send you signs
So you know you are not alone

Don’t feel guilty that you have
Life that was denied to me
Heaven is truly beautiful
Just you wait and see

So live your life, laugh again
Enjoy yourself, be free
Then I know with every breath you take
You’ll be taking one for me
