Amado (Armando) Islas Vargas
Des Moines

Amado Islas Vargas, age 59, passed away peacefully of natural causes while being comforted by his wife Maria on Monday, June 20, 2022.

Amado was born October 18, 1962 in Tulancingo, Mexico to Alfonso Islas and Amada Vargas.

Amado first came to the United States during the early years of the 90’s. Leaving behind his wife and first 2 children in Mexico in hopes of providing a better life for himself and for his family. Having difficulty getting around, learning English and getting accustomed to the United States. In 1993, he was reunited with his family, wife and children, Maria, Isaac and Jorge. Throughout his early years in the United States, He learned he had a passion for food. Amado has worked in the culinary industry for over 20 years, a majority of those years learning about Asian food. From Chinese to Vietnamese food, he gravitated more towards cooking and providing quality, delicious food and gained a passion for the industry. He enjoyed cooking and made a living out of doing so, providing for his family in any and whichever way possible. Amado eventually purchased a home for the first time in 2005 and settled there with his complete family; Wife and 4 children. In 2008 Amado managed to purchase his own restaurant “Little Panda” which was located towards Waukee/Clive area. His time with his restaurant was very impressive whereas he would work every part of the restaurant from taking orders to cooking to delivering food as well. Amado was very capable of handling stress very well and always seemed very lively, joking around and first but foremost taking care of his family all along the way. From teaching all his children and others learn how to drive and always supporting his children however he could. He always was the person to support and to encourage everyone to do their best in life and would sometimes give a little push when needed. (Especially towards his children) His sons know that Amado always wanted the best for them and for them to have a better life than he could have and he most definitely succeeded in accomplishing that. Ensuring his family had a roof, food (which was always cooked perfectly) and a place to sleep. He was admirable in whenever he were to be “knocked down” in life, he would find a way to bring himself and those around him up.

Amado was always the person you could go to for advice and was always so personable and perhaps not the easiest person to talk to but was very understanding. Amado loved having his vehicles outstandingly clean and always dressed very sharp whenever he could. He would take his wife dancing when he was able to either on his days off or after work. Eventually Amado sold the house we were living in and a couple years later bought another house where we currently reside in. We are so grateful and content with the man Amado was towards his family and the people around him. Always felt like he was around even when he wasn’t. Once his children started to get older and started to build their own lives, his children would come over whenever they could and was one of the best story tellers. His stories would always bring out a smile and make someone laugh at the dinner table.

Amado was always a giver and never expected anything in return. He always just tried to make sure everyone around him was well fed and well taken care of. And now it’s our turn to take care of him and follow through on his final wishes.

He is survived by his wife, Maria and Children; Isaac, Jorge, Armando, & Eduardo. Relatives and in-laws; Isabel Hernandez, Isabel Islas, Perla Islas, Esther Islas, Yazmin Islas, Justino Calderon, Enrique Gutierrez, Maria Gutierrez, Estela Islas, Felipe Islas, Francisco Hernandez, Fructuoso Hernandez, Maribel Aguilar, Jose Hernandez, Rosa Gonzalez, and so many more family members and in-laws.
