Ed Merrifield

Edgar Milton Merrifield, age 84, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022.

Ed was born on March 5, 1938 to Margaret (Strohl) and Clifford Merrifield in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Park Avenue Elementary through 4th grade, where he then went to Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa and graduated in 1955. He lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Richfield, Utah, where he drove school bus, worked in a radio station, and upholstery shop. He returned to Des Moines, Iowa and worked two years as a bus driver for Continental Trailways. He then went to Fort Dodge Transportation and drove charters for seven years and could give walking tours of Chicago, New York City, and Washington DC. In 1976, he moved back to Des Moines, Iowa and started driving for Des Moines MTA. He worked there 23 years before retiring in 1999 due to health.

On March 18, 1995, he married his life partner and love of his life Dolores (Dee) Nott.

Ed enjoyed gardening, traveling, genealogy, working in the yard, and working as backup flagman at the Indianola, Iowa Fairgrounds. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jennie Mae Reed, Virginia Walker, and Linda Merrifield. He is survived by his wife, of 27 years Dee, daughter Valorie Campos from Alachula, Florida, good friends Scott, Laura, and Zach Smith, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will take place after the services.
