June 19, 2022
Joan Cherry, beloved wife, mom, grandmother and sister, went to heaven on June 19, 2022. She was born on July 26, 1950 in Mason City to Marjorie & John Haaf.
Joan was a retired Des Moines school teacher who taught 1st grade for 38 years. She started at Kirkwood, then went to MLK Elementary and finished her career at Granger/South Union.
Joan loved kids and teaching, but family was everything to her. She took loving care of everyone that she knew, and you could always count on Joan to be present at every family event! She was loved by all and had an infectious laugh. Her favorite thing was spending time with her grandkids!

Brian, Amanda, Johnny and Tyler,
I am so sorry to learn of Joans passing. I know she was such a tremendous cheerleader for her grandchildren! She touched the lives of so many families as an educator in DMPS.
May the legacy she leaves bring you comfort and peace in the days ahead.
Sending my favorite family love and strength!
