Merlin G. Govig

Merlin G Govig, 76 of Grimes, Iowa died June 10, 2022. Visitation will be Wednesday June 15, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa. Services will be held Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at NorthPoint Church, 9901 NW 62nd Ave. in Johnston, Iowa 50131. The internment will be at the Brethren Cemetery outside of Dallas Center, Iowa with a luncheon following at NorthPoint Church.

Merlin was born in Villisca, Iowa to Chester and Gladys Govig. He was one of six children. Merlin married Kay Evans of Lincoln Center, Iowa on October 31, 1964 and they had two children, Allen (Susan) of Madrid, Iowa and Wayne (Kari) of Waconia, Minnesota.

Merlin worked in sales and management for his entire career. He most enjoyed the relationships he and Kay built with customers throughout the Midwest. Merlin enjoyed fishing and golfing and regularly cheered for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Family was of great importance to Merlin and he deeply enjoyed time with his wife, Kay; his sons and their spouses; his four grandchildren, Abbie (Matt), Evan (Sarah), Thomas (Sarah) and Logan; and his four great-grandchildren, A.J., Beau, Leo and Felicity. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ed, Ron and Allen; and his sisters, Joyce and Myrna.

Merlin believed in the mission of Freedom for Youth at 2301 Hickman Road, Des Moines IA 50310. In lieu of flowers Merlin's family would be grateful if you choose to support this organization or another charity of your choice.
