Rosemary “Rosie” (Rinehart) Gaudette passed away Tuesday June 7, 2022, in Des Moines, Iowa. Rosie was born February 29, 1940, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Cecil and Mary (Chumbly) Rinehart. She attended Van Meter, Norwalk, and Prairie City schools.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Runnells Christian Church, 309 Brown Street, Runnells, with a cookie reception to follow at the church. A private interment will be held at Canfield Cemetery at a later time.

Rosie moved to Washington. D.C. following her high school graduation where she worked for the Navy Department. There she met Robert “Bob” O. Gaudette. They were united in marriage on June 2nd, 1962, in Washington, D.C. In 1966 they moved to Columbus, Ohio where they were blessed with two children: Jon and Debra. In 1972 they moved to Iowa. Rosie went to work for the Federal Soil Conservation Service until she retired in 1994. Rosie’s love of books lead her to work and then volunteer at the Altoona Public Library.

Rosie and Bob both enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe. They spent their winters in the Carolinas and Florida. They loved spending time with their grandchildren. They spent many hours putting together jigsaw puzzles and gardening. Her favorite food was ice cream, and she enjoyed spending time with her TOPS Group.

Rosie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert “Bob” Gaudette of Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Additional survivors include her adult children Jon (Tammy) Gaudette of Runnells, IA, Debra Mikkelson of Atchison, KS, and their four grandchildren Devin (Marie) Gaudette of Runnells, IA, Alex Gaudette who is stationed with the US Army in Germany, Markelle Mikkelson of Platte City, MO, and Anna Mikkelson of Lawrence, KS. Additional survivors include her younger brother Russ (Belinda) Rinehart of Altoona, IA and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Ricky and Ross, and her favorite and only son in law Mark Mikkelson.
