Cynthia Dianne Mathews, 61, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009, at home surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 1 pm Thursday, November 5, 2009, at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
Cynthia was born on July 31, 1948, in Alamosa, Colorado to Betty and John Weir. The Weirs moved to Des Moines in 1951. Years ago Cindy managed Mutual of Omaha Flight Insurance at the DSM Airport, worked at Monfort before it closed and also for United Way. She worked the past 13 plus years at Iowa Employment Solutions at DMACC with a wonderful group of people who gave her a tremendous amount of support. Cindy enjoyed spending time with her mother working in the garden and decorating her house and loved watching HGTV, getting decorating ideas. She loved to spend time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.
Cindy is survived by her son Rob (Lana) Allison; two daughters Lisa (Sergio) Cortes and Kim (Juan) Garcia; mother, Betty Weir; brothers Steve (Patty) Weir and Brad Weir; ex-husband Bob Mathews; twelve grandkids; four great grandkids; two new great-grandkids on the way; nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.

I worked with Cindy at Ia. Employment Solutions and also at CIETC. She became ill after I retired and moved away but my thoughts and prayers have been with her. Cindy was always so cheerful at work and had a big smile on her face. Even during stressful times she looked at the bright side of things and tried to help her co-workers do the same. Cindy will be greatly missed but hopefully she is in a better place away from pain and suffering.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a loved one so soon, is the worse thing to go through. Aunt Cindy was an awesome person, however I will never forget the time we had with you when we were gowing up in trouble or just being a kid. Ever after the divorce from my uncle(Bob Allison),you were still there for us. I will miss you! May her love and kindness live through those who she has touched so dearly.
