Lora Irene Newton

Lora Newton, 91, passed away June 1, 2022 at Mercy One Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA on Wednesday, June 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. and a graveside service on Thursday, June 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bussey, Iowa.

Lora was born February 12, 1931 in Bussey, IA to Mabel (Edinger) and Raymond Wales and graduated from Bussey High School. She spent the majority of her career at Midwest Mutual Insurance Company as a Supervisor. Lora was married to Loyd Dudgeon from 1949-59 and to Erbon Newton from 1961-92. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading. Lora was a devoted football fan – watching every night possible and cheering on her Pittsburgh Steelers. She raised her family in New Virginia, IA and was an angel to the Boy and Girl Scout bake by providing huge batches of cookies for their bake sales. She also made May baskets for the New Virginia Manors. Lora continued to contribute as a donor, giving the gift of life to those in need.

She is survived by her children, Linda Adams, Karen Dudgeon, Debra Newton Christensen and Donald Newton; and her siblings, Letha Wales, Vergie Hodson, John Wales and Bob Wales.

Lora was preceded in death by parents; and siblings, Leonard Wales, Ila Mae Wales, Kenneth Wales, Esther Kooymna and infant Willard Wales.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Mercy One Hospice in Johnston.
