Service Details

Jo Ann (Consolver) Cowman passed away at home May 19, 2022. She was born March 6, 1941 in Des Moines Iowa to Lloyd and Elsie (Countryman) Consolver.

She Graduated East High school in 1959 and attended Drake University. She worked as a Waitress at her family’s restaurant the King Ying Low, one of the country’s oldest Chinese restaurants.

She joined a bowling league and met her husband Larry Danielson whom she married in 1961 taking on the care of three scared little girls. She raised the three along with one of her own to be honest, caring people who knew how to get the dishes clean. She taught them how to can and cook food from the garden. She was renowned for her coleslaw recipe which could not be written, but must be assembled “to taste”. Only the youngest was ever able to duplicate it to her satisfaction.

She worked at AT&T as a telephone operator and as a credit consultant for Sears. All while making sure dinners were cooked, homework completed, clothes washed, and the multitude of things required to run a home.

She loved fishing, camping with family and the Foresters; traveling, square dancing and spending all her ‘spare’ time in her beautiful gardens. She doted on her dogs, adopting several from the Iowa ARL over the years.

Jo was preceded in death by husband Larry Danielson, brother Lloyd Wayne (Butch) Consolver, and parents Lloyd Countryman and Elsie (Countryman) Leong.

She is survived by her husband Gene Cowman, brother Jimmy (Donola) Leong, four daughters; Linda (Mike) Tucker, Cheryl (Walt) Malson, Donna Ehlert and Sherry (Tom) Kirkman; Three sons ; Brad (Angela) Cowman, Mark (Janet) Cowman, Todd (Saudia) Cowman, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren and Zoey.

She will be so missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held July 23rd in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Iowa ARL or the family.
