Vivian Garcia

Vivian Irene Garcia, 92, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Parkridge Specialty Care in Pleasant Hill due to Alzheimer's disease. Vivian was born in Dawson, Iowa on April 24, 1930, to Verner Ogden and Francis Robbins.

Vivian married Antonio Guzman on July 3, 1948, and went on to have four children, Antonio Guzman, Sr., Marquita Marrero, John Guzman, and Jacqueline Beck. They divorced in 1955 and she took to her roots to explore. Vivian was a wandering soul and lived in several states ranging from Arizona, Texas, and Kansas. While she was following her heart in the world, Vivian met the love of her life, John Garcia, Jr., and married on November 18, 1978. They were together 25 years until his passing in 2003 which led her back to Des Moines, Iowa to be with her children.

Vivian loved being active and was always on the go. Nothing could stop her. One of her favorite hobbies included spending time with her friends at the Southside Senior Center and making large batches of her special enchiladas to give to friends and family. Vivian loved her dog, Little Bit, and her two cats, Tiger and Sheba. Her cats were just as ornery as her, so it was a match made in heaven. She may have prank dialed a friend a time or two.

Vivian is preceded by her parents, Verner and Francis; her child, John Guzman who passed away as a baby; and her husband, John Garcia, Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory are three of her children, Antonio “Tony” Guzman, Sr. (Ann), Marquita Marrero, and Jacqueline Beck (Scott); step-children, Michael Garcia, John Garcia (Misha), Renee Garcia, Lisa Garcia; grandchildren, Antonio “Tony” Guzman, Jr., Dana Johnston (Charlie), Miranda Cook (Jordan), Cassandra Habben (Parker), James Munson (Holly), Michael Munson, Tina Fazio, Donna Fazio, Jenny Fazio-Wilson, and Angela Villalobos (John), Nadia and Justin Garcia, and many great-grandkids whom she adored.

The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A private family graveside service will take place at Glendale Cemetery.
