Elizabeth Alice Maher Walsh, 93, of Des Moines, died Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at All Saints Catholic Church, with burial following at Glendale Cemetery.

A visitation with the family present will be from 3-6:00 p.m., Monday, November 2, 2009, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa, with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.

Betty was born July 16, 1916, in Imogene, IA, the daughter of Bernard and Mabel Foutch Maher. After retiring from the admissions office at Mercy Hospital, she was a volunteer for many years in the Mercy Gift Shop, Catholic Social Services, American Red Cross Bloodmobile and Bishop Drumm home. She enjoyed participating in Catholic Daughters, her quilting group and her Mercy Park community. An active member of All Saints Parish for over sixty years, she cherished her faith, her family and her friends.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Walsh; son, Stephen P. Walsh; granddaughters Nannette Carlton and Jeannie Walsh; brother, Bernard Maher; sisters Mary Bridget Maher, Margaret Gilmore, Dolores Claypool and two infant brothers.

Betty is survived by her son, Timothy J. Walsh of Peru, IL; daughters, Mary Ann (William) Blaufuss of Nashville, TN, Betty Jane (Michael) Carlton of Okoboji, IA, and Roberta (Roy) Messick of Leawood, KS; sister, Florece Henkel of Dyersville, IA, and daughter-in-law, Judy Walsh of Des Moines. Her nine grandchildren, Patricia Walsh, William F Blaufuss III, Mary Elizabeth Blaufuss, Anne Blaufuss, Tony Carlton, Scott Carlton, David Messick, Carolyn Messick and Bridget Messick will serve as her pallbearers. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue in Des Moines, or St. Vincent De Paul Society, 1426 6th Avenue in Des Moines.
