Service Details

Alex Blake James, 36, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2022. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with visitation on Friday, May 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. and the funeral service on Saturday, May 7 at 10:00 a.m.

Alex was born in Des Moines, IA on December 30, 1985 to Paula (Pearson) and Daniel James. He graduated from Adel DeSoto Minburn High School and was an active member of the thespian group and drummer in the band. He delighted in playing in the Alumni Pep Band on alumni night. Alex survived a tragic skiing accident his senior year of high school. He was told he would never walk again but walked across the stage to receive his diploma.

Following high school, Alex worked for Home Care Services as a dispatcher and most recently for De Lage Lander Financial Services in Customer Service. He also worked part time at the Adel Library for many years.

In his free time, Alex enjoyed the guilty pleasure of watching Wrestling WWF, attending concerts, the Adel Sweet Corn Festival, and tracking the family genealogy. Alex bowled in a junior league and enjoyed bowling his whole life. He loved the Chicago Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Most of all, Alex love spending time with his family and adored his seven nephews. He could often be found playing video games and Legos with them or watching Star Wars.

On November 17, 2018 after years of searching for his soulmate, Alex married the love of his life, Amelia, who moved all the way from California to find him.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Amelia James; his parents, Paula and Daniel James; brothers, Aaron (Ericka) James and Drew (Mary) James; nephews, Andy, Henry, Timothy, Samuel, Bennett, Lucas and Colin James; his father-in-law, Mark (Robin) Brown; brothers-in-law, Jonathon Clark, Anthony Clark, Daniel Clark, Ryan Brown-Kohalmy, and Logan Clark; and sister-in-law, Daelin Klaassen.

Alex was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Susan Clark.
