Daniel Ramirez Martinez, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Urbandale Health Care Center while under the care of Suncrest Hospice.
Daniel was born May 17, 1935 in Mason City, Iowa to Preciliano and Antonia Martinez. He was one of eighteen children, and the youngest of the boys. Daniel enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 17. He proudly served as part of the Crash Rescue Team from 1952 – 1956. After his military service, Daniel began working for the railroad and continued to serve with the National Guard.
Daniel married Barbara Magnuson and they had four children: Debbie, Teresa, Daniel Jr. and Melissa. He was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion. Daniel loved nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time doing yardwork. He liked watching wrestling and football, and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Cubs fan. Daniel was a man who was content with solitude. He loved his family and his grandchildren above all else.
Daniel is survived by his daughters Debbie Webb (Steve) and Melissa Martinez, grandchildren: Steve (Stephanie), Heather (Daryl), Jessica, Alexander (Emily), Gabriela and Oscar, six great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, sisters Angie and Phyllis, brothers Milton and Johnny, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, parents Preciliano and Antonia, daughter Teresa, son Daniel Jr., and thirteen siblings.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Daniel.

My condolences to all of you for this loss. Sending thoughts and prayers to all of you. Daniel was a great man and a gentle soul with an infectious smile and great sense of humor. I was always impressed with his love of the KC Chiefs and it was an honor having him go to a game with us. RIP Daniel
