Julie Brooke Doud

Julie Brooke Doud was born October 24, 1981 to John William Doud and Constance Sue Brooke Doud in Grinnell, Iowa. She arose Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, to be with her Lord and Savior as well as her father and grandparents. Julie fought her battle with brain cancer and its side effects as well as the side effects of treatment since she was one year old. She was always happy and kind and willing to help. She attended Grinnell Community Schools and graduated from Southeast Polk High School after her family moved to Des Moines.
After school Julie worked in an Easter Seals enclave and Goodwill. She participated in Goodwill’s Day Program and most recently attended New Horizons Day Program. Julie was an expert SkipBo player, enjoyed bowling, line dancing, playing cards with friends, and being with family. She was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church and enjoyed worshiping there regularly.
Julie was preceded in death by her father, John Doud; and grandparents, Virgil and Doris Doud and Vern and Marilyn Brooke, all of Grinnell; and her dog, Jack. She is survived by her mother, Connie Doud; brother, Nick (Gina) Doud; nephew, Micah Doud; step-brother, Casey (Hannah) Flanagan; niece, Ivy Flanagan; and step-sister, Chelsea (Tony) Apland.
Julie’s memorial service will be at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Oakwood United Methodist Church, 400 NE 56th Street, Pleasant Hill, IA. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m., at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Memorials in Julie’s honor may be made to Oakwood United Methodist Church or Blank Children’s Hospital.

Julie was so kind to me. She would touch my arm with love when I would say something sweet to her. It was a look from her that told me she was fond of me. Her laughs that were so deep , she would need reminded to take a breath. I will hold onto memories of her always. And I think I only beat her at Skip Bo a couple of times! Julie my friend, I will miss you.

We will all miss Julie at New Horizons Adult Day Center. I can hear her shout "Bingo!", a game she loved to play. She was very sweet and our staff and other participants enjoyed being with her. We wish you comfort and peace, Connie.

Julie was the sweetest, kindest and funniest girl! I have and will miss her belly laugh when she would win thumb war! She was a angel on earth and now in heaven! So sorry Connie!
