Ronald Gene Cooley

Ronald Gene Cooley, 84, of Urbandale, IA, died April 14, 2022, at his home in Urbandale. He was born February 16, 1938, to Jess and Alice Cooley in Sioux City, IA. He lived in California, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nevada, and Washington State before moving back to Iowa.

Ron was an avid demolition derby fan, including both as a driver in his earlier years and then as a spectator.

Ron is survived by his wife, Linda; four daughters, Ronda (Jim) Davis of Independence, IA, Lisa (Daryl) Stevens of Beaver Crossing, NE, Gina (Mike) Duncan of Lincoln, NE, and Jennifer (Jim) Hibbert of Perry, IA; two sons, Craig Cooley of Lincoln, NE and Mark Cooley of Ottawa, KS; two step-daughters, Rhonda Wick of Henderson, NV and Sheila Wick of Des Moines, IA; and one step-son, David (Sharon) Wick of Des Moines, IA; 31 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Donna Wetrosky and Jessie Lukowiz.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Wayne; one half-sister, Diane Fredrickson; and a half-brother, Wilbert (Butch) Cooley.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, IA. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., the night before at the funeral home. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
