Adele Vivian Smith

Adele Vivian Smith, 91, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2022. Services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at The Well Covenant Church, 2625 Hubbell Ave. in Des Moines, IA at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior.

Adele was born on March 4, 1931 in State Center, IA to Laura (Gerke) and Carl Wilkening. Upon graduating from State Center High School, she attended Cosmetology School and had a lifelong career as a hair stylist. She was owner of Char Del’s Beauty Salon and then continued working in Des Moines and Pleasant Hill. She enjoyed caring for her beloved clients and many followed her for years.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. She received the most joy from spending time with friends and family. She loved to visit and share unending life stories. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

She enjoyed reading, bowling, fishing, golf, her annual trips to the Iowa State Fair with grandchildren and any opportunity to dance. Her favorite pastime was playing bingo, cards and beating you at Yahtzee.

She is survived by her children, David Clemens (Deb), Tracy (Larry) Long, and Stacy Hoffman; her son-in-law, Don; her brothers, Dennis and Jerry Wilkening; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.

Adele was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Ronald Clemens and Charles Hansen; her daughter, Ronadel Davis; and brothers, Pete and Richard Wilkening.

Her hugs, her smile and her laughter will be dearly missed but not forgotten.
