Vernon West

Vernon O. West, 87, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, November 2 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

Vernon was born October 7, 1922, to Eva and James West in Des Moines. He served his country proudly in the US Navy during World War II. Vernon worked as a brick layer for the Des Moines Brick Layers Union Local #2. He was a member of Grace Church and the Brick Layers Union #2. Vernon loved being with his family. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and hunting.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Wilma; his children, Barbara (Richard) Grafton of Des Moines, Steven (Donna) West of Prescott Valley, AZ, Roger (Carla) West of Ankeny and Clinton (Eileen) West of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; his sister, Maggie Lou Derrough of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by son Jack Fees.
