Robert 'Bob' Leroy Watts
April 06, 2022
Robert ‘Bob’ Leroy Watts was born on July 16th, 1935 and passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on April 6th, 2022.
He was born in St. Louis, MO to Leroy and Carroll Watts. He was the oldest of his siblings, Ronnie and Julie. Bob obtained his bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry from University of Missouri and was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves. He met his wife, Lela, in grade school in Troy, MO where they grew up and were married in the 50’s. They had six children: Carroll, Karen, Stephen, Mark David, Julie and Mary.
He farmed, raised livestock and eventually went on to sell metal frame buildings for Bloom, Butler, Lester, Morton and Leading Edge. He was dedicated to his work and never retired. Bob advocated for justice and peace in his community and the world and lived selflessly as he was a member of Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul, Torch Club and many other charitable organizations.
He is survived by his two daughters Carroll (Sam) Segrist and Mary Watts, his ten grandchildren: Sammy, Mark (Angela) Segrist, Katie (Tim) Loughrist, Jenny (Jeff) Davis, Jill (Jared) Cronenworth, Jordan, Brontë, Honor and Colter Foss, and Donny Cooper. He has six great grandchildren: Campbell, Collins, Lily, Julian, George, and Sammy.
He was an incredible grandfather who never missed his grandchildren’s events if he could help it and his loss will be felt deeply by many.
There will be a gathering at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Carlisle, Iowa on Saturday, April 30th for people to pay their respects and have coffee and desserts from 11am-2pm. There won't be a formal funeral or service.

Bob made the world a better place. He daily lived his values of peace, justice, and inclusion. At Torch Club, I will miss his kind and welcoming demeanor, his humorous hand-written business cards, his thoughtful insights on complexities and future of rural Iowa.
Thanks Bob, for all you gave. May we be worthy of your leading.

Bob Watts was a "colossus"of a man. It has been my fortune to know him over the last 27 years and call him friend. There were no limits to his care, consideration, imagination curiosity, intelligence and ability to touch the lives of all who knew him. He said that he didn't want to " rust out" and he certainly didn't. Heaven will find a new soul has entered who will keep the angels on their toes.
He has left a large hole in the hearts of his family, friends, acquaintances, and all whose lives he touched. Well done good and Faithful servant.

My Condolences, Bob and I became acquainted through DSL installation, politics and phone trouble. We talked a lot about both computer problems and politics,, Bob became a good friend and I already miss him and his calls.

My heartfelt condelences to Bob's family. Bob was a friend of mine through the Des Moines Torch Club, where he had an impact by bringing in a diverse group of new members. A talk he gave there encouraged me to work with St. Vincent de Paul. He cared deeply about social justice. Bob knew a lot of people, from the founder of the Casey's chain to helpers at food banks. He will be missed by many.
