Service Details

Janice Kay Floyd, age 74, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with COPD and lung cancer.

Janice was born April 26, 1947 to George and Violet Wallace in Marshalltown, IA where she graduated from high school and attended beauty school. Janice lived most of her life in the Des Moines area with the exception of 15 years in Jacksonville, FL from 1995 to 2010. She worked for Dunkin’ Donuts and Cut & Curl Salon. Janice had a unique collection of things, that some might lovingly call her obsessions. If there was a hair removal product, she would try it. She would purchase everything at Walgreens or similar stores that was labeled “As Seen on TV” just to see if it was as astonishing as promised in the advertisements. (It rarely was, but she never gave up trying.) Most impressive was her rubber band ball. It was initially a gift from her son that was a modest size, but quickly began to grow over the years. She added to it consistently until it became such an impressive size, that she began taking photos of it and sending them to rubber band companies, which would prompt them, in turn, to send her more rubber bands! Her record-breaking rubber band ball will be converted into an urn to house her cremated remains to celebrate her quirkiness and love of unique things.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Joe Godfroy (Victoria); daughter, Jessica Godfroy; grandchildren, Anthony Godfroy, Alan Godfroy, Dakota Godfroy, Reyna Myott, and Emmy Godfroy; many great-grandchildren; sister, Cindy (Robin) Steele; her dog, Bean; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her infant son, Michael Godfroy; sister, Leann Boston; and her parents, George and Violet Wallace.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Janice.
