Mary M. Anderson, age 107, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at her home under the care of Suncrest Hospice.

Mary was born February 9, 1915 to Neely and Marie Kay in Emmetsburg, Iowa, where she was raised. Mary married Frank Zimmer and they lived in many places. To this union, one son was born, Don Zimmer. After Frank passed away, Mary married Jim Anderson. They made their home in Denison for many years. Jim also preceded Mary in death. She moved to Des Moines as a widow, and made her home at Beaverdale Estates for over 20 years where she made many meaningful friendships. She was instrumental in establishing their bird watching garden and loved watching the birds over the years. Mary enjoyed her family very much and was a loving mother and grandmother.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Patricia Zimmer; granddaughters, Stephanie (Bob) Toigo and Kathy Deason; brother, Richard Kay; her nieces, nephews, and many other loving family members and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Neely and Marie Kay; husbands, Frank Zimmer and Jim Anderson; son, Don Zimmer; sisters, Juanita Cobb and Delores Simonsen; and her brother, Joseph Kay.

Per Mary’s wishes, Hamilton’s Funeral Home will help with a simple cremation and she will be laid to rest at Ida Grove Cemetery next to her husband, Frank.

In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to Beaverdale Estates to help with the perpetual care of the bird watching garden.
