Monte McKercher, age 65, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Monte was born September 18, 1956 in Sioux City, Iowa to Thomas and Gladys (Julif) McKercher.

Monte graduated from Sioux City East High in 1975 and graduated from Western Iowa Tech in 1977. He moved to Des Moines in 1977.

He enjoyed biking, riding in Ragbrai 33 years, scuba diving and gardening.

He is survived by his father, Thomas, Sioux City; brother, Lance (Jane), Omaha, NE; sister, Gwyn (Barrie) MacArthur, Phoenix, AZ; nephews and nieces; family and friends.

Monte was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys; sister and brother in law, Gloria (Glen) Aldag; partner, Gerald Reinhart.

Visitation will be held at Hamiltons Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Friday, April 8, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2022. It will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 3900 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines. Cremation will follow the services.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to John Stoddard Cancer Center or Shepherd of the Valley Church in West Des Moines.
