Lupe (Alatorre) Rivera

Lupe (Alatorre) Rivera, 98, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 25, 2022. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 13, 1923 to Simon and Carmen Alatorre.

She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Lupe loved spending time with her grandchildren, supervising the making of tamales and enchiladas.

Those left to cherish Lupe’s memory are her children: Virginia (Steve) Morris of Alabama, Carmen Rivera, Josie Miethke, Louie Rivera and Theresa Wagner, all of Des Moines; and her grandchildren: Gloria (Michael) Skinner and their son Tristen, Amanda (Lance) Van Wyk and their daughter Jordyn, and Brooke Wagner (Charlie Colosimo) and their son Charlie.

Lupe was preceded in death by her husband Louis, her parents, her siblings: Joe and Carlos Alatorre and Isabel Lagunas, and her son-in-law Bob.

Services will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road, Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines. A celebration of life will also be held at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the family in loving memory of Lupe.
