Joyce Skidmore

Joyce Fay Skidmore, 78, passed away on March 24, 2022. She was born April 3, 1943, in Avon, Illinois, to Lucille and Emil Bullard. Joyce and her family moved to Iowa in Dec. 1949. She married Bruce P. Skidmore on May 25, 2002.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce; brother, Emil Gene Bullard (Kay) of Cincinnati, Iowa; children, Doug Clark of Des Moines, Brad Clark of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Lisa Marshall (Joe) of Granger, Iowa, and Angie Hansen (Allen) of Cumming, Iowa. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Madison Clark, Tyler Clark, Ryan Hansen, Natalie Hansen, Colton Marshall, and Jackson Marshall.
Joyce came to Des Moines after graduation from high school in 1961. Joyce and Bruce met at Mercy Hospital where she was a secretary for the social services department. She retired from Mercy in 2004 as the Director of volunteer services. After a period, she went back to Mercy to work part-time in the medical records department, leaving there in 2020.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2022, also at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. A live stream of her service will be available on Hamilton’s website.

Bruce, I'm so thankful I was able to see you both on that Saturday evening. Joyce is one in a million and I'll never forget her. Mom and Joyce were best friends for 30+ years and I always looked forward to seeing you both. Joyce was part of the family and Bruce, you still are. May the Lord wrap you in His abundant love while you rest in peace Joyce. I love you.

She was my sister in arms. Never any judgement from her She was there for everything I needed her to be. I hope I was the same kind of friend. Simply loved her. She will be missed everyday. She always made me laugh. My heart goes out to the family and others that loves her.
