Robert "Jake" Van Horn

Jake Van Horn went home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2022. Jake was born on June 30, 1930, to Virgil and Bertha Van Horn in Runnells, Iowa. He graduated from Woodside High School.
Jake loved his family, many friends, fishing and sports. He played softball for many teams in the area. He often watched Ankeny High School sporting events. Jake gardened and canned sharing the fruits of his labor with all. He retired from Firestone after 33 years and continued his passion for golf playing and working at various golf courses.
Jake was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara Jean, parents and 7 siblings, Belva, Alma, Norman, Donald, Clarence, June and Grace. Jake is survived by his daughter Laura Van Horn of Des Moines and Rick Robertson Van Horn (Debbie) of Lakeside, CA, stepson Jeff (Susan) Schwartz of Columbia City, OR, grandsons Chris (Sue) Van Horn of Santee, CA and Patrick Nunn of Bellair Bluffs, FL, and granddaughter Kelsey (Nate) Jones of Ankeny, IA. He had 3 great-grandchildren Ruby, Ivy and Carter. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and friends who he loved very much.
The family would like to express its gratitude to Mill Pond Care facility, UnityPoint Home Care, and UnityPoint Hospice for the special care they provided him.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines, where the family will receive visitors from 1-2 p.m. Burial will take place at Oralabor Cemetery following the service.

Going to really miss Jake. A true good person that always tried to make anyone feel better. Thanks for all the conversations, laughs, etc.. Jake, love ya RIP

So sorry to hear of Jake's passing. We spent alot of time with Jake and Barb at the lake and in Texas. Jake had more songs in his head that most people have in a hymnal! Jake will be surely missed. We all loved him as an uncle. Judy, Annie, Jeremy, & Ken
